Young Farmers Connect

The Changing Face of Farming

Young Farmers Connect (YFC) is an Australian not for profit organisation committed to cultivating networks, resources and community for young farmers. They provide educational platforms and community connections that encourage young agrarians to farm for the future, supporting the use of regenerative, holistic & sustainable agricultural practices.

YFC has bloomed through the combined efforts of young farmers and food systems activists around Australia. In 2015 the Northern Rivers Young Farmers Alliance was formed as a voice for the young farmers in the Northern Rivers region of NSW. During my time in the Northern Rivers region of NSW I volunteered alongside local farmer Venetia Scott on her patch at The Farm Byron Bay, and contributed to their annual publication, The Changing Face of Farming, which is dedicating to elevating and celebrating the roles and voices of women.

'“We have delved deeply into the worlds of women - from those who are passionately driving the fair food movement, building resilient communities, exploring suburban farming and feeding their community. Women who are tackling social isolation, supply chains, celebrating Indigenous culture and creating pathways for new and young farmers who are joining the wave of folks returning to the land.
These female farmers challenge us to reimagine our understanding of what a farmer looks like - and join a swelling chorus of voices calling for a radical shift in our attitudes toward agriculture and demanding action to combat climate change - while demonstrating that they are not waiting to get started.”

100% of profits from this publication is directed to the Young Farmers Connect not-for profit education fund to support new and young farmers and to the development of a legal support toolkit for small scale farmers.
